Postdoctoral position to work on COVID-19 meta-research

Applications are invited for a full-time post-doctoral position to study the reliability of scientific findings published in relation to COVID19. The project is a collaboration between the research groups of Salvador Soto-Faraco, at the Center for Brain and Cognition in Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), and Miguel Vadilllo at the Department of Psychology in Universidad Autonoma de Madrid. The position is funded by the BBVA Foundation project ‘COREVID: COronavirus Research EVIDence evaluation’.

The position

We seek excellent and highly motivated candidates with a background in statistics, biomedicine, psychology or related fields, although all backgrounds will be considered if the candidate experience aligns with the project goals. Necessary: Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python), familiarity with advanced statistical methods, and demonstrable experience in similar meta-research projects. Desirable: Experience with data mining. The project goal is to estimate the reliability of research outputs garnered during the COVID19 crisis using quantitative techniques such as p-curves [1], selection models [2], or tests for excess significance [3]. We will especially consider candidates who are eligible and stand good chances to continue their own research lines under a senior postdoctoral fellowship such as the MSCF or the La Caixa Junior Leader

Conditions

The position is full-time and will be funded for one year.  Starting date: As soon as possible. Salary (before tax):  up to 35,000 euros/year (according to experience). Remote working is possible, but occasional in-person meetings may be necessary in Madrid or Barcelona.

Eligibility

The candidate must be able to legally work in Spain.

PhD, or equivalent research experience.

How to apply

Please, send an expression of interest (or other enquiries about the position) to projectes.cbc@upf.edu. Include the following:

– C.V., a cover letter describing research interests, contact details of two academic referees, and a sample of your previous work (publication, thesis, and/or other scientific outputs).
