Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position to contribute to a joint project led by Prof. David Shanks at UCL and including the University of Sussex (Prof. Zoltan Dienes) and the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Dr Miguel Vadillo). The project focuses on improving the research methods that are available for studying various forms of unconscious (implicit) mental processes including learning and decision making.

This project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, will aim specifically to develop new experimental and statistical (e.g. Bayesian and meta-analytic) tools to aid understanding of implicit cognition, a key psychological process at the heart of current theorizing in many domains of behaviour including clinical, cognitive, developmental, health, and social psychology.

The successful candidate will be based in London and supervised on a day-to-day basis by Prof. Shanks. UCL hosts one of the foremost experimental cognitive psychology research communities in the world, and the Experimental Psychology Research Department is centrally placed within the university, with state-of-the-art facilities for conducting behavioural research and close connections to UCL’s cognitive neuroscience, language, and other related research units.

This post is funded for 3 years, in the first instance.

The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in psychology, cognitive science, or a related area. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge in cognitive psychology and have experience in designing, conducting, and analysing psychological experiments. He/she should also have excellent data analysis and programming (e.g. MATLAB, R) and writing skills.
