We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a two-year position at the Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC), University of Granada (Spain). The project addresses a core challenge in contemporary neuroscience: how to rigorously study subjective experience as a dynamic neurophysiological process.

The project is grounded in neuroscience and focuses on extreme physiological transitions, such as intense physical exercise, sleep onset, and pain. These states offer powerful experimental models in which the brain, body, and behavior reorganize over time, and where subjective experience cannot be reduced to physiology alone.

Our central aim is to validate a new methodology for capturing phenomenological experience as a continuous, time resolved signal. Temporal Experience Tracing (TET) allows experience to be reconstructed moment by moment and linked to behavioral, physiological, and neural measures. A key outcome of the project will be methodological, the transformation of TET into an evidence-based and openly accessible scientific tool for neuroscience and clinical research.

The position is based at CIMCYC (University of Granada – Spain), and is led by Prof Isabel Benítez and Luis Ciria. The project includes international collaboration with Prof. Tristán Bekinschtein at the University of Cambridge (UK) and Prof. Cornelia Neuert at GESIS- Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences (Germany).

We are looking for an active and motivated postdoctoral researcher with a background in neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, or related fields, who sees this project as an opportunity for intellectual growth and consolidation. Experience with experimental design, physiological or neural data analysis, or a strong interest in consciousness, subjective experience, and research methodology is highly valued.

Our goal is to build a genuine collaboration. We are looking for someone willing to take an active role in shaping the project, contributing original ideas, leading specific studies, and developing an independent research profile beyond the lifetime of the project. If you are interested in advancing the neuroscience of human experience within a supportive and interdisciplinary environment, we would very much like to hear from you.
