The Memory and Cognition Lab (C3N) at the Complutense University of Madrid (https://meg.ucm.es/en/memory-and-cognition/) offers a 4-year PhD position (FPI) to pursue doctoral studies within the project “REvealing the CAusal role of the right lateral Prefrontal cortex in active forgetting” (RECAP; PI: Javier Pacios), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (PID2024-158913NB-I00 B).
The project investigates the neurophysiology of inhibitory mechanisms involved in the cognitive control of memory, particularly in active forgetting phenomena (e.g., suppression-induced forgetting, retrieval-induced forgetting, directed forgetting), by combining behavioural measures, non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, and electroencephalography (EEG). The main goal of the project is to confirm the causal role of the right lateral prefrontal cortex in the inhibitory control of memories.
Applicants must hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology or related disciplines. Previous experience in EEG data acquisition and analysis, programming skills (Python and/or Matlab), and familiarity with cognitive paradigms related to cognitive control and memory will be particularly valued.

El Laboratorio de Memoria y Cognición (C3N) de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (https://meg.ucm.es/memoria-y-cognicion/) ofrece un contrato predoctoral FPI de 4 años para realizar estudios de doctorado en el marco del proyecto “REvealing the CAusal role of the right lateral Prefrontal cortex in active forgetting” (RECAP; IP: Javier Pacios), financiado por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (PID2024-158913NB-I00 B).
El proyecto investiga la neurofisiología de los mecanismos inhibitorios involucrados en el control cognitivo de la memoria, particularmente en los fenómenos de olvido activo (e.g. suppression-induced forgetting, retrieval-induced forgetting, directed forgetting), combinando medidas comportamentales, técnicas de estimulación cerebral no invasiva y electroencefalografía (EEG). El objetivo fundamental del proyecto es el de confirmar el papel causal de la corteza prefrontal lateral derecha en el control inhibitorio de los recuerdos.
Los candidatos deben estar en posesión de los títulos de Grado y Máster en Psicología o disciplinas afines. Se valorará especialmente la experiencia previa en registro y análisis de datos de EEG, las habilidades de programación (Python y/o Matlab), así como la familiaridad con paradigmas cognitivos relacionados con el control cognitivo y la memoria.
