The DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1665 «Sex diversity. Determinants, meanings and implications of sex diversity in socio-cultural, medical and biological landscapes» is a transdisciplinary network of biomedical research, genetics, neuroscience, science studies, history of science, ethics and social sciences. The aim of the CRC is to study the diversity of sex in a broad spectrum of investigations from the cellular level to analyses in social, historical and knowledge political contexts.
In subproject S01 «Impact of steroid hormones on brain networks of affective behavior» under the direction of Prof. Ulrike Krämer (University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck) and Prof. Nicole Reisch (LMU Klinikum, Munich), we are currently seeking to hire a PhD student / doctoral candidate with start date of April 1st, 2024. The position is limited until 31/12/2027 and will be paid according to TV-L E13 (65%).
Description of the project:
The project aims to characterize the mechanistic link between genetically determined variability in steroid hormone levels and affective behavior. Within the project, we will study groups with differences in sex development (DSD) as well as typically developed individuals. We will use behavioral paradigms and fMRI studies to characterize affective behavior and its underlying neural networks. Data collection will take place in Lübeck and in Munich. The PhD student will mainly work in Lübeck.
What do we offer?
Doctoral students will take part in the structured training program of the Research Training Group integrated in the CRC. Doctoral students have the unique opportunity to discuss and reflect on their own research in the inter- and transdisciplinary environment of the CRC (e.g. in lectures, summer schools and retreats).
Prof. Krämer’s research group is located at the Center of Brain, Behavior and Metabolism (CBBM; cbbm.uni-luebeck.de), which offers an excellent and state-of-the-art research environment. Several EEG systems, an fNIRS system and a Siemens Skyra 3T MRI are available for research at the CBBM. The group is interested in the neural and endocrine basis of social, cognitive and affective processes. Current group members and research projects can be found at cns-luebeck.com.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a person with a M.Sc. in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience or related fields. Expertise or strong interest in human neuroscience methods (EEG, fMRI), psychoneuroendocrinology research and experience in programming and statistical analysis (MATLAB, R) is expected.
